Adult probation department

The Probation Officer is on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to handle emergency situations which may arise after normal working hours, e.g. probation violations.

In addition, the Probation Officer works one Saturday per month to see those probationers who cannot attend appointments during the week due to their work or school schedules.

Services Provided

The Probation Department provides probation supervision for misdemeanant cases assigned by Putnam County Municipal Court.  Also, probation supervision is provided for those misdemeanant offenders who have been convicted of Contributing to the Delinquency/Unruliness of a Minor and assigned by Putnam County Juvenile/Probate Court.

The overall focus of the Putnam County Probation Department is to hold probationers accountable for their actions and to assist probationers in connecting with community-based services such as: education, employment, drug and alcohol counseling, domestic violence counseling, mental health counseling, community service and vocational rehabilitation.  The desired outcome of this linkage is to have these individuals become more productive and successful members of society.

The Probation Officer also prepares pre-sentence and post-sentence investigation reports, when requested by the judge, which provide additional information to assist the judge in sentencing.

In addition, the Probation Department works closely with the Putnam County Clerk of Courts office to ensure that probationers pay their fines, court costs, and restitution.
